Choosing a Cigar Right For You
With all the options available, it may be overwhelming to the novice cigar buyer as to where to begin, so here are a few tips from our cigar store that we would like to share to get you started in the right direction!
-
1 Find a comfortable shape for you
We sell cigars that differ by length and ring gauge, or diameter. This does not have any impact on the flavor or strength of the cigar, so choose the one that best fits you.
-
2 Find a wrapper that appeals to you visually
Once you find one, inspect it. Make sure there are not any tears or gaps in the wrapper; you want it to be as flawless as possible.
-
3 Look at the color of the cigar
It should not have any lighter or darker areas and should maintain the same coloring throughout.
-
4 Avoid dry or flaky cigars
If a cigar appears to be even the slightest bit dry or flaky, avoid it. A properly handled cigar in appropriate humidity will not display signs of being dry.
-
5 A cigar should be firm
A cigar should feel firm to the touch the entire length. There should not be any divots or weak areas. This shows that you have a filled, quality cigar.
Cigars vary in flavor and strength
Take the time to find the right one for you. When choosing the right strength, look at the tobacco itself. The longer the leaf stays on the tobacco plant, the more it matures, and the darker it gets. The darker in color the tobacco is, the stronger the flavor. As a general rule of thumb, the darkness of the wrapper is the indicator for the cigar’s strength.
We suggest trying out a variety of cigars at first to see which type you prefer. Our knowledgeable staff is always here to help you!
